God Friended Me

I wonder what I would do if God sent me a friend request. Probably ask Him about why in the world we have mosquitoes and spiders.

And what was up with Hitler and colonialism.

I’d also ask Him for superpowers. He won’t give them to me though, I’ve tried.

But while God is my friend, He doesn’t seem to use social media. At least not with me.

But He apparently does on this show.

Here’s the premise:  An outspoken atheist, Miles’ life is turned upside down when God friends him on Facebook. Unwittingly, he becomes an agent of change in the lives and destinies of others around him. Confident, compelling and quick-witted, Cara Bloom is a leading writer at an online magazine. Under pressure for her next big story, her life takes an interesting turn when she meets Miles—thanks to God’s friend suggestion (source Wikipedia).

Sigh.

I feel like we’ve been here before. What with the likes of Bruce Almighty, Kevin Probably Saves the World, Joan of Arcadia (which was an amazing show btw).

The show itself is not bad. But it’s not that good either. There is basically no emotional attachment to any of the characters in the pilot episode. But that could be just my bias. I do feel like it will be canceled after like five episodes. I could be wrong though since I don’t know what the future holds. Because I’m not God.

I would post spoilers but they’re no fun when no one knows what’s being spoiled.

Update: Many weeks later. We passed the five episode many moons ago. By the time of this edit, there are 13 episodes. I was wrong.

But this show makes me wonder… Why Facebook? Is Mark Zuckerberg a producer? Are they trying to make us forget how they mine information? Is it subliminal advertising you know, coz God apparently prefers Facebook to other forms of social media? Does God have a twitter account? And if He does, do you follow Him? (See what I did there?)
